Getting featured on a major platform like Black Enterprise brings so much visibility, esteem and potential clients to your business! It will not only excite and engage your audience, but also add credibility to your media kit, speaker reel, website and social platforms.
So I want to share here, exactly how I was able to get featured on the platform twice. This is a strategy that you can use with any major media platform, so that you develop authentic and quality connections with journalists of all facets.
The first time I was interviewed by the platform was in 2014 as I was preparing to host the Glambitious Tour in various cities around the country. For the New York stop, I invited a writer for Black Enterprise to be on the women empowerment panel. She enjoyed the experience and decided to interview me about the work I was doing for women entrepreneurs. The second time I was invited to share "What to look for when hiring a PR agency" by a fellow PR colleague who was also a contributor. We actually met on Instagram, exchanged DMs, hopped on a call and developed an ongoing connection.
You too can make connections with contributors to major media platforms, just simply find an authentic way to connect and invite them to be a part of your efforts in a way that is mutually beneficial to them growing their own brand. When you visit a media platform and find an article similar to your niche, take note of that writer and follow them on social media before directly connecting. This allows for an organic connection, because if they like what your platform reflects, they may also follow you back! Ofcourse you can also directly send a media pitch as well, because often their email is included on the media website. However building quality relationships with media connections will be more long-lasting for your business.
