Hey Baxate, I'm a high school student who wants major in software in the future and I was wondering what S.T.E.M. extracurriculars you put on your college resume. I was also wondering how I can incorporate learning how to code into my schedule in high school so I can better my chances of getting into the competitive universities of California by putting more effort into S.T.E.M.-related extracurriculars. Hey, I saw some of your reels and I thought some of the takes you had were pretty insightful , and I’ve been trying to get multiple perspectives/answers on this question, what do you think my chances of getting a full time job/multiple in the software engineering field would be if I self-taught and built up a good portfolio (programs/group projects on GitHub). I’m considering other options besides finishing my SE degree since I’m not doing too well, academically. The goal is to have flexible space and work from pretty much anywhere.

Hello baxate. i am an engineering student entering his second year. i enjoy coding and like the prospects and idea of a software engineering job/career, however being an 18 year old i don’t have much trust in myself when it comes to determining my career haha. because of this i decided to study mechanical engineering and if i ever decided to break into software i would get a masters in CS or do boot camp. however, i still have anxiety about the decision, as i still fear missing out on the benefits of working in tech and am worried that the versatility of my degree may still make hard to ever break into tech if i wanted too. do you think i made a reasonable decision, and how complicated is it really to break into tech under this path? thansk so much.
