Is learning SQL useful if you want to be a software engineer? And what else do you recommend learning in high school to become a software engineer?

Hey, i have been following you for the past 3 months and find your posts really interesting. I am 25 and have decided to change careers! I graduated in HR and been working in banking for the past 4 years! I have always had the passion for software/web development and tried to do bootcamps on the side but unfortunately i am not the best person to study by myself! I like when i am held accountable and can learn in person. I am thinking of going back to school for a Software development diploma! I haven’t been in school since 2019, a little scared to get back into studying and also juggling full time work with studying. Any suggestions or comments are welcome. Please let me know your thoughts!

Hey Baxate! I am debating between computer engineering and computer science. I took digital logic and an intro to cs classes and I loved it! But now I am not sure what to pick. I do plan to be a software engineer and leaning towards an AI engineer as well. But I loved the CPE classes I took and felt it would help me. The unfortunate thing is that there is not a lot of cs classes with the cpe degree. 12 out of 43 credits are only cs classes. I would like to know your perspective since you studied cpe!

Do I have to be good at Math to be a software Engineer?
