As a boy from the UK interested in doing software engineering in America, would going to an American university be better than going to a UK university and then trying to apply for a job in the USA?

Do I have to go to a university to become a Software Engineer?

I went to community college and then did a semester at university in the spring. To continue going to university will cost me about ~20k/year (including tuition, housing, food) or I could do an online CS B.S. degree through ASU or another university which would cost me ~4k/year (both after aid). I am really concerned about racking up debt. I have about 50 units left and unsure about which route to go. I would like to join computer science club and other clubs at university but I’m not sure if that alone is worth incurring debt when I could complete a degree for much less money. I don’t have any family that has gone through college so any insight or advice would be awesome! Thank you!

Hey Bax, Transferring to a target school this year, do you think it would be better to have on my resume the transfer school with my expected graduation, or should I also add my last university too since I had a 4.0 gpa even though its not a super good university? Ive been doing the latter and have applied to over 50 internships with 0 luck so Im wondering if you think itll make a difference.
